NEET 2023

NEET 2023 Full Details – Result, Dates, Cutoff Marks, Merit List & Round 2 Counselling

The second round of NEET 2023 counselling, which took place from August 9 to August 14, involved registration for the process. To secure a spot, the registration fee had to be paid by 8 PM on August 14. During this period, from August 10 to August 15, the choice filling stage for NEET UG counselling Round 2 was underway. Notably, candidates had the opportunity to lock in their choices on August 15, between 3 PM and 11.55 PM.

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) allowed students to give up seats allocated in Round 1 between August 7 and August 15, with the last possible resignation date initially set for August 7, but postponed twice to August 8 at 6 PM and then to August 9 at 8 PM, finally ending on August 15 at 8 PM.

The NEET counselling process for 2023 will continue until September 30. MCC is responsible for the counselling of the 15 per cent All India Quota (AIQ) seats, while State Counselling Authorities will oversee the process for the remaining 85 per cent State Quota seats.

The counselling will encompass four rounds. Differing from previous years, candidates now have the opportunity to register for all four rounds, whereas in the past, registration was limited to Round 3 or the Mop-up round. The fourth round, known as the Stray Vacancy round, would directly assign seats to candidates.

In addition to the central counselling, individual states and Union Territories are conducting their own NEET 2023 counselling. The NEET counselling process will determine admissions for various medical courses, including MBBS, BDS, and BSc Nursing.

However, there’s a distinction for BSc Nursing counselling: six Nursing colleges affiliated with the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University will conduct their own counselling, while MCC will manage the process for five Nursing colleges across India.

The counselling process is set to feature four rounds, but based on seat availability, this number might change for certain courses. Any adjustments to the number of rounds will be communicated by either MCC or the State Counselling authorities in due course.

What is NEET UG?

NEET UG, which stands for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate courses, is the primary entrance examination for securing admission to MBBS and BDS programs in India. This comprehensive exam is administered once a year in an offline format and spans a duration of three hours and 20 minutes.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is responsible for conducting this crucial medical entrance test, which serves as the gateway to various medical, dental, and paramedical courses, including MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, BAMS, Veterinary, and more across India. It’s important to note that NEET UG is offered in 13 different languages, accommodating a diverse array of students.

NEET 2023 Updates

In NEET 2023, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced several changes to various aspects of the exam, including the application process, exam cities, tie-breaking criteria, and more. Let’s explore the new features introduced this year:

  • Increased Application Fee: There has been a hike in the application fee for all categories, with an additional INR 100 charged. For candidates selecting an exam center outside India, the fee has seen a more substantial increase of INR 1,000.
  • Document Upload Requirement: This year, applicants are required to upload an extra document in PDF format, serving as proof of both their permanent and present addresses.
  • Choice of Exam Cities: In contrast to the previous year’s requirement of selecting four exam cities, candidates now need to choose only two cities for their exam centers.
  • Reduced Number of Exam Cities in India: NEET UG 2023 will be conducted in 485 exam cities across India, with an additional 14 cities abroad. This marks a decrease from the 543 exam cities within India that were part of last year’s exam, while the number of cities abroad remains unchanged.
  • Revamped Tie-Breaking Process: The NTA has eliminated the consideration of age as a tie-breaking criterion. Instead, this year’s tie-breaking procedure will take into account the number of correct attempts in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, alongside the proportion of correct and incorrect attempts.

These changes represent NTA’s efforts to refine and enhance the NEET examination process for 2023, impacting aspects ranging from application procedures to the manner in which ties among candidates are resolved.

NEET 2023 Mock Tests

The NTA releases NEET mock tests to aid aspirants in their exam preparation. While the actual NEET exam follows an offline or paper-pencil format, candidates can undertake online mock tests for practice. Coaching institutes also offer offline mock tests to evaluate readiness.

After completing a mock test, it’s crucial to analyze it to identify areas for improvement and adjust preparation strategies accordingly. Mock tests span various difficulty levels, ranging from very easy to challenging. Engaging with these mock tests exposes candidates to diverse question types, better preparing them for the actual exam day.

NEET Mock Test encompasses a comprehensive array of questions spanning Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. This test provides insight into question types, the exam format, and marking schemes. Following the test, immediate scoring is available.

NEET 2023 Preparation Advice

NEET aspirants should begin by understanding the exam pattern and syllabus. Subsequently, they can select appropriate reference materials. Utilizing NCERT books is advised for syllabus coverage. Developing a structured study timetable is paramount for timely completion. Engaging with mock tests and sample papers is equally important.

Due to the balanced weightage across sections, a well-rounded approach to all subjects is essential for achieving a balanced score. Regular mock tests aid in identifying strong and weak areas, allowing focused subject or topic-specific study.

NEET 2023 Syllabus

The NEET 2023 syllabus encompasses three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. This syllabus mirrors the CBSE Class 11 and Class 12 syllabi. Aspirants are recommended to review the syllabus before embarking on preparation. The NEET syllabus likely remains consistent with the previous year’s. Given its alignment with Board exams and other national-level competitive tests, a unified study strategy should suffice.

NEET UG FAQs

Q: When does the NEET 2023 counselling process commence?

A: The NEET 2023 counselling schedule was officially disclosed by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) on July 14. The registration window for Round 2 of NEET UG 2023 counselling is set to run from August 9 to August 30. MCC initiated the registration process for Round 1 on August 9. The entire counselling procedure is planned to conclude by September 30. Remarkably, the MCC unveiled the NEET counselling dates 2023 exactly a month after the announcement of the NEET 2023 result on June 13. Notably, certain states have already initiated counselling for the 85 per cent state quota seats. The counselling timelines differ between national and state-level admissions. The four rounds of NEET counselling encompass Round 1, Round 2, Mop-up Round, and the Stray Vacancy Round. The extension of the number of rounds may occur based on seat availability. NEET counselling stands as the pivotal gateway to securing admission in medical and allied courses like MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BUMS, BHMS, BSMS, and BSc Nursing.

Q: Could you explain the process of counselling in NEET?

A: The NEET counselling process harmoniously combines both online and offline elements. Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of how to engage in the NEET counselling process:

  • Registration: Commence by registering online through the form accessible on the official Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) website. After filling the form, candidates need to make the required payment.
  • Choice Filling: Candidates are tasked with selecting the colleges they wish to join. After registering, candidates log in to the MCC website using their credentials and proceed to enter their preferences.
  • Choice Locking: During the designated choice locking phase, it is vital to secure the choices to generate a printout of the submitted preferences. This step is crucial, as once the choices are locked, alterations cannot be made.
  • Seat Allotment Result: MCC publishes the seat allotment outcome for candidates who adhered to the registration and choice submission procedure. Depending on the seat allocation, candidates can opt to accept the offer or proceed to the institute reporting phase. Alternatively, they may decide to upgrade their seat and subsequently need to register for subsequent counselling rounds.
  • Institute Reporting: Based on the seat allotment, candidates must visit the institutions where they intend to pursue their medical education. This stage involves the verification of mandatory physical documents and payment of admission fees.
